About your speakers:

Douglas E. Ziegenfuss, PhD
Dr. Douglas E. Ziegenfuss is a Professor on the faculty of the School of Accountancy, Strome College of Business, at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he also teaches auditing courses. Dr. Ziegenfuss has a BA in Philosophy/History from Mount Saint Mary=s College (magna cum laude), a MS in Accounting from American University, and a Ph.D. in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a CPA, CMA, CIA, CFE, CGFM, CISA, CCSA, and CFFP. 
Dr. Ziegenfuss developed and taught a two-hour training course in ethics that meets the requirements of the Virginia Board of Accountancy for Virginia CPAs from 2004 to 2005. Starting in 2016, he has delivered the VSCPA Required Ethics Course for CPAS. He annually presents the course 35 times to approximately 1500 CPAs. Dr. Ziegenfuss has served on the citizens audit committee for The City of Virginia Beach and Norfolk Public Schools. He is also the Auditing Committee Chair for Bons Secours Hampton Roads. Dr. Ziegenfuss also established and mentored the Managerial Accounting and Auditing Club (MAAC) that functions as the student chapter for the AGA, IIA, and IMA since 1994. He has been a local chapter President six times for the local chapters of the VSCPA, IIA, FEI, and ACFE.

Frank Cellini, EA, ABA, ATA, ATP, NTPI fellow
Frank Cellini is the managing partner of CFAP Group locations & operations, client representation and tax services. He is the Past President of the PA Society of Tax & Accounting Professionals (PSTAP) and the Past Chair of NSA Membership Committee. Frank has served on the NSA-Awards, and Bylaws committees, is Chair of the IRS Liasison Committee for PSTAP, IRS Eastern PA Working Together Board Member, and an EA fellow. Frank is current a member of the PSTAP, PSEA, NAEA,  NATP. 

Arthur Joseph Werner, J.D., M.S. (Taxation)
Arthur Joseph Werner, JD, MS (Taxation), is the president and is a shareholder in the lecture firm of Werner-Rocca Seminars, Ltd. Mr. Werner’s lecture topic specialties include business, tax, financial and estate planning for high net worth individuals. In addition, Mr. Werner is a former adjunct professor of taxation in the Master of Science in Taxation program at the Philadelphia University. Mr. Werner received his B.S. in Accounting and his M.S. in Taxation from Widener University. He holds a J.D. in Law from the Delaware Law School. Mr. Werner lectures extensively in the areas of Estate Planning, Financial Planning, and Estate and Gift Taxation to Certified Public Accountants and Financial Planners, and has presented more than 3000 eight-hour seminars over the past twenty-five years as well as numerous webinars and video presentations. Mr. Werner has been rated as having the highest speaker knowledge in his home state of Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, was awarded the AICPA Outstanding Discussion Leader Award in the State of Nevada, the Florida Institute of CPAs Outstanding Discussion Leader Award, and the South Carolina Association of CPAs Outstanding Discussion Leader Award. 

Course Information:

Making the Best of Bad Situations (6)
This course helps the practitioner understand planning considerations and potential problems when certain “bad situations” happen to his/her client. This course will explore a variety of bad situations and provide the practitioner an understanding of the tax and non-tax circumstances to be considered when advising a client who is experiencing a bad situation.

OBJECTIVE:
At the end of this course you will be able to: 

  • Recognize tax and non-tax issues of various circumstances that a client classifies as bad situations. 
HIGHLIGHTS: 
  • Understanding the tax and non-tax issues in divorce 
  • Understanding the tax and non-tax issues in personal bankruptcy, cancellation of debt, foreclosure, repossession, and reporting of bad debts 
  • Understanding the tax and non-tax issues of personal relationship matters, such as living together, property rights, premarital agreements, filing status, exemptions, and dependents 
  • Understanding the support issues for spouses and former spouses 
  • Understanding support issues for children of divorced or separated parents and the tax treatment of back child support 
  • Understanding the business issues involved when the parties to a business break apart 
  • Special issues, such as marital property rules, married versus unmarried tax rate comparisons, head of household status, and treatment of refunds and deficiencies.

Tax, Financial, and Estate Planning Strategies Under the Trump Admin (8)
As the Internal Revenue Code goes through changes, tax planning, financial planning, and estate planning techniques and strategies will need to be changed. In this course, the participant will learn how either proposed or actual legislative changes will affect these planning areas. Special planning circumstances (for example, single-parent issues) will be discussed within this context. This novel course is one that practitioners cannot afford to miss if they provide planning services to clients. 

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this course you will be able to: 

  • Recognize how proposed and/or actual changes to the Internal Revenue Code will affect the tax planning, financial planning, and estate planning techniques.
  • List ideas as to how to create and/or update their client’s tax, financial, and estate plans due because of the new administration’s proposals. 
HIGHLIGHTS: 
  • Review of proposed and/or actual legislation, including
    1. Individual Income Tax changes (rates and deductions);
    2. Elimination of the Alternative Minimum Tax;
    3. Increase in the standard deduction;
    4. Business Income Tax changes (rates and deductions);
    5. S Corporation issues; and
    6. Estate Tax elimination. 
  • Examination of a client’s current plan 
  • Understanding the problems facing a client due to the changing legislation
  • Understanding how to find new pathways for a client’s tax, financial, and estate plan
  • Specific techniques based on the proposed and/or new law

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations must be received in writing:
  • if rec'd prior to May 30, refund provided less a $50 administration fee; 
  • if rec'd after May 30, no refund & $125 fee applies. The balance of fees will be kept as a credit on account to be applied to a future transaction. 
  • No shows will not be refunded.
